Our elected Central Committee members are currently canvassing every precinct in Ward 14. Over the next several months, we’ll be out every weekend, going door to door and distributing mail-in ballot applications for the November 3rd midterm election.
Please understand this: the midterm election is every bit as important as a presidential election. In many ways, it can be even more important because these are the elections that determine who represents us in Congress, the Statehouse, and our local communities.
We are living through an extremely difficult and consequential time in American history. Sitting on the sidelines is not an option. If we want Democratic candidates to stand up, fight for working people, protect our communities, and hold government accountable, then we have to stand together and make our voices heard at the ballot box.
Candidates like Amy Acton and Sherrod Brown, just to name a couple, understand the importance of fighting for working families and organized labor.
And while Brian Poindexter does not represent any part of Ward 14, he is a fellow union worker who could very well have an opportunity to unseat Max Miller. That race matters, too.
But none of this happens by itself.
We cannot expect change if we aren’t willing to get involved. Knocking on doors, talking to our neighbors, helping people register, getting mail-in ballot applications into their hands, and—most importantly—getting people to actually vote are all things we can do right now.
The political climate we are facing demands participation, not apathy. If we want to stop the authoritarian direction our government is taking, we need to organize, unite, and show up.
You don’t have to be an experienced political organizer. You don’t have to know everything. You just have to be willing to help.
If you are interested in getting involved with our Ward 14 canvassing efforts, please reach out to me at waltward14leader@gmail.com.
Every door we knock on matters. Every conversation matters. Every vote matters.
We always welcome the help—and right now, we need it.
Thank you,
Walt Gachuk
Ward 14 Democratic Leader
